Norway - a wilderness outpost

Norway - the land of unspoild wilderness, fjords, mountains, waterfalls, midnight sun and northern lights.

Norway is one of the larger countries in Europe geographically, but has a tiny population of just 4.5 million. Only 2-3% of the country is arable, leaving us with a huge amount of unspoiled nature per capita.

Norway is blessed with breathtaking scenery: from the awe-inspiring fjords to the towering mountains; from the cascading waterfalls and crystal clear lakes to the deep pine forests, rolling meadows and charming homesteads scattered across the landscape.

Our country's extensive coastline is peppered with small towns and villages where clusters of wooden houses - homes to the families of seafarers and fishermen for hundreds of years - are crowded along narrow winding streets against the sparkling backdrop of the sea.

In addition to its beautiful scenery, Norway has two other natural wonders that we would like to point out to you: the Midnight Sun and the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis).

When the skies are clear in northern Norway during June and July, the sun never sets - it shines 24 hours a day! Especially in the region just north of the Polar Circle, the midnight sun gives off a wonderful colored light.

During the winter, on the other hand, northern Norway sees very little daylight. During the long winter months of darkness, however, nature offers another spectacular phenomenon: The Northern Lights. Under the right weather conditions, the dark winter sky explodes with nature's own fireworks. Like gigantic curtains, the Northern Lights flare across the sky in intense colors.

This awesome experience alone makes a trip to Norway in the wintertime worthwhile!
